The founding president of Coloring Dreams Preschool, Luciana de la Fuente, was interviewed on Univisión’s “Despierta América” show. In the segment called “Educación, pequeños y valiosos,” Luciana de la Fuente gave some advice on stimulating children to facilitate learning mathematics, starting in the first years of life.
“We need to talk to children about mathematics as an ordinary topic. Math is everywhere. We need to teach them through play so that it will be enriching for them. Rather than a difficult subject, it should be part of their lives,” she said.
She commented that parents should understand that math is a tool for understanding the world and that we connect to it through shapes, color, time and space. “Parents need to develop that bond with children so that they see mathematics as a game,” she advised.
She also said that, from the time they are born, children have “modules” in their brains, including mathematics, language and science modules, which must be interconnected for better learning.
